Once we reach a certain age, stretching becomes an important part of our daily lives. A good stretch in the mornings is a great wakeup call to our muscles and allows us to start the day off right. Stretching also happens when we do activities we know are straining to our body. But for those suffering from back pains out of nowhere, stretches for your lumbar might help ease some of the stress in your back.
Find a good spot for your tight lower back stretches and get ready to feel the pain melt away.
4 Stretches for Your Lumbar
Spinal surgery isn’t often necessary for all lower back pains, even when they get extremely painful. Your lower back is also known as your lumbar, and it is often the cause of most of your pain. There is so much support for your lower back, from cushions for your chairs to lower back stretches. Try these lower back pain relief stretches to help you get through the day.
Angry cat pose
Have you ever seen how stretched a cat’s back is when you scare it, or when it gets mad? Well, you’re about to get familiar with the same motion for this pose. Get on all fours like a feline and arch your back upwards to increase extension to your lumbar. You can then bend your back inward for more relief. Release and relax afterward.
Press up stretch
Sometimes your back needs a good stretch, and this lower back pain relief provides just to right amount of pressure. Lay flat on your stomach on your mat and keep your elbows angled underneath you. Lift your upper body, keeping your pelvis and hips on the floor, and back muscles relaxed. Continue to lift your body as much as you can to get a good stretch.
Knee to chest stretch
Laying on your back often helps your lower back pain find relief, so add some extra stretches while you lay down. On your back, lift one knee and press it to your chest as far as you can. Continue the stretch on the other leg and switch back and forth with the stretch until you find relief.
This simple yoga helps get your lower back into zen mode. Get on your hands and knees and sit your buttocks on your heels. Lengthen your body by stretching your hands forward until you feel a stretch in your middle back. Hold your pose for 10-30 seconds and perform for 2 or 3 more repetitions.
