A team of Sunrise Hospital surgeons and other physicians, led by neurosurgeon Dr. Yevgeniy Khavkin, performed this procedure for the first time in Southern Nevada. Now a young woman can walk again.
Dr. Yevgeniy Khavkin, of the Nevada Spine Clinic led a multi-disciplinary team of doctors at Sunrise Hospital in September 2010 to perform an extremely rare and complex spinal procedure. This was the first time this surgery was performed on a patient in Southern Nevada. The procedure performed was total sacretomy, or removal of the sacrum (tailbone) and reconnection of the spine and pelvis.
